Everyone has seen the famous photo of Ben Crenshaw being consoled by his caddie after holing the winning putt at the 1995 Masters just a week past his instructor Harvey Penick’s passing. Now there is a book that contains the remarkable story of this equally remarkable friendship. Masters Champion Ben Crenshaw and his Masters caddie since 1976, Carl Jackson, couldn’t have come from more different backgrounds, but through golf have developed a deep friendship that has changed them both. The backdrop for this wonderful story is Augusta National Golf Club and The Masters. Last summer I met and chatted briefly with Carl Jackson at The Alotian Club in Arkansas which prompted me to finally get around to picking up this book. Filled with anecdotes about Crenshaw and Jackson as well as a cast of Masters participants and Augusta National members this is a fun read for anyone who loves The Masters and is also a great way to kick off Masters week!
