Top 100 Golf Quest E-newsletter Vol. 6

Hello Friends, Family and Fellow Golfers,

Its been a while since my last update in September. I wound up the year with 28 of the Top 100 courses completed. I finished the East Coast season with an incredible trip to New Jersey for Baltusrol’s Lower Course and Somerset Hills which are 2 great Tillinghast designs. In November I went to Texas where the season is a bit longer and played my last Top 100 course of the year at the Dallas National Golf Club and had a great time. I have added my photos and notes from all three of those courses to my website at www.itinerantgolf.com.

The new 2009/2010 Top 100 list is now out so my target has shifted for the first time on this quest. Although there was significant jockeying for position between the courses on the list, thankfully only 8 courses fell off and 8 new ones were added. Of the 8 that fell off I had only played one so that means I stand at 27 courses of 100 completed. Unfortunately, I no longer have the honor of having played the number 1 course in America as Augusta National edged out Pine Valley for the number 1 spot.

If 2009 goes well I will reach 40-50 courses completed by the end of the year. With the economy squeezing me a bit I’ll be trying to stick to the eastern half of the US. Some destinations I’m planning for this year are Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL and New York City metro area among other locations. I’m in the process of making plans for Pete Dye Golf Club in WV, The Golf Club, Double Eagle Club and Scioto Country Club in Columbus, OH, Winged Foot’s East Course in NY, Kiawah Island Club’s Cassique course in SC and Oakmont and Laurel Valley in PA. My contact list grew enormously last year and I’ve been lucky enough to make a great number of contacts that will help me with my quest this year, so hopefully I wont have to grovel too much. That being said below are a couple of courses where I am looking for assistance.

Muirfield Village Golf Club: Columbus, OH
Eagle Point Golf Club: Wilmington, NC
Peachtree Golf Club: Atlanta, GA
Aronimink Golf Club: Newtown Square, PA
Plainfield Country Club: Plainfield, NJ

I am going to try to do Chicago this year as well. I have little to no contacts in this city and appreciate any help that can be offered at the Top 100 clubs in the Chicago area. They are:
Chicago Golf Club, Shoreacres, Olympia Fields, Butler National, Medinah, Rich Harvest Links

Please let me know if you are able to provide assistance and I hope to see you all this golf season!

Steve
