Hello to everyone!
Hard to believe that summer is basically over. August was fairly mild in Richmond, and now it looks like Fall is starting to settle in. No complaints here.
Its been a while since my last newsletter and I’ve had a fairly busy summer with my Top 100 Odyssey. I am now 15 months into the project I have completed 25 of the Top 100 courses. I was hoping to have 40 courses completed by the end of the year, but it realistically looks like I’m going to fall somewhere between 30-35. This is still ahead of my original target, so I am pleased with the progress.
The summer was very good and I managed to play some really great golf courses including the number 1 course in the world Pine Valley Golf Club which was incredible. For those of you know my father you may want to read about the sound thumping he administered on me at this course.
August and September I also had the good fortune of playing Winged Foot’s West Course (#8), Oak Hill Country Club’s East Course (#25) and Bethpage State Park’s Black Course (#26) in addition to the unranked Bayonne Golf Club. I’ve added my notes etc for these courses at my website www.itinerantgolf.com. If you click on the “Updates” tab on the home page you can easily find the newest content. The only disappointment of the summer was a rain out for the Camargo Club in Cincinnati. Hopefully I can work that one out for next year.
Confirmed plans in October and November include Baltusrol Golf Club’s Lower Course, Somerset Hills Country Club both in New Jersey and Dallas National Golf Club in Texas. There are another 5 or so courses that I am working on that I will hopefully be able to be fit in before the end of the year.
Owing to the enthusiastic help I have received from all of my supporters the list of courses where I need to make member contacts is really short this time around. Below are a few places I’d like to try to get to this year and am still seeking a contact. If you or someone you know might be able to assist me please let me know.
Ocean Forest – Sea Island, GA
Calusa Pines – Naples, Florida
Thanks again for everyones help and support. I wouldn’t have made it this far without everyone’s help.
