Top 100 Golf Quest E-Newsletter Vol. 16

Hello Friends and Fellow Golf Fanatics!

Last month I celebrated the five year anniversary of this site and of my Top 100 quest. It’s been an amazing, incredible, and at times simply unbelievable journey so far. As I reflected on the last 60 months one thing that struck me was all the fantastic people I have met. When I stopped and really began to think about all the golfers I have played a game with over the last five years it was utterly mind boggling. The community that loves golf truly is a great society. The people I have met and played with have ranged all the way from carpenters to captains of industry. There have been internet entrepreneurs, teachers, media moguls, doctors, a security guard, retirees, real estate agents, lawyers, bankers, golf bloggers, golf professionals, a television personality, government workers, a cabinet maker, elite athletes of both the amateur and professional variety, investment managers, golf course superintendents, advertising executives, a plumber, hedge fund guys, insurance salesmen . . . the list could literally go on forever.

Just for fun I decided to take a minute and figure out how many different people I had played golf with from June 2007 through June 2012. Because my local rounds are cataloged in the ForeTees system at my home club and most of my travel rounds are chronicled here it wasn’t all that difficult to come up with a reasonably accurate number. By my “back of the envelope” calculations I have played golf with 291 different people on 136 different golf courses in the last five years. These are all people who have taken an interest in and supported my quest over the last five years. This number doesn’t even account for the dozens of new acquaintances with whom I have corresponded through this site, but have yet to meet in person or share a game with.

As of today I am exactly 3/4 of the way through my quest with visits to 75 of the Top 100 courses completed. Yes, I am still 100% dedicated to my goal of playing all the courses on the Top 100 list, but whether I ever complete my quest or not, my life has been enriched immeasurably just for the fact that I have tried. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank every person who has either given up 4+ hours of their valuable time to play golf with me or supported me through their encouragement and help. Playing the Top 100 was big dream for a regular guy from Virginia and it is simply humbling when I think about the people that have rallied around me. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank everyone who has shared in, or been along for the ride in some way on this great adventure . . . thank you to each and every one of you.

Since my last newsletter I have added some new posts to the site. I have started a “Features” section where I hope to add a little more non-golf course related posts. I’ve also been keeping with my Monday & Wednesday post schedule so there have been a lot of posts. Here are some of the more interesting (in my opinion) new posts since my last newsletter.
