Hello Friends and Fellow Golfers!
Welcome to the latest update in my Golf Odyssey Newsletter. The first quarter of 2011 has been a little slow for my Top 100 Golf Odyssey as there are not very many locations represented on the list to travel to during the winter. I did manage to make a trip to southern Florida where I played Calusa Pines and Seminole Golf Club. My post about Calusa Pines went up today and Seminole will follow very soon. While in the area I also was able to get in a game at Indian Creek Country Club which is not on the list, but is a truly incredible place to visit. There will be a post about this course coming soon as well.
Since my last newsletter update back in December 2010 I have not added too many courses to the site. This winter has been busy and I haven’t had a chance to dedicate the time to it that I needed. Here are a list of the new posts that have gone up since my last newsletter:
The big news from the first quarter of 2011 is that the new 2011-2012 Golf Digest Top 100 list is out. This is the second list change I have gone through since I started my quest and I was anxious to see if any of the courses I had already played fell off. Unfortunately, there were several . . . seven to be exact. Fortunately, I had already played one of the new courses added to the list so I had a net loss of 6 courses which brought me down from 64 courses completed to 58. Also of interest is that because there was a tie for the number 100 spot, the list now consist of 101 courses. This leaves me with 43 courses to play in order to complete my quest.
The new courses on the list are:
Alotian Golf Club – Roland, AR
Friar’s Head Golf Club – Riverhead, NY
Mountaintop Golf and Lake Club – Cashiers, NC
Diamond Creek G.C. / Banner Elk, NC (This is the one I had already played)
Kapalua Resort – Kapalua, Maui, HI
Boston Golf Club – Hingham, MA
Old Sandwich Golf Club – Plymouth, MA
Ballyneal Golf Club – Holyoke, CO
Forest Dunes Golf Club – Roscommon, MI
The complete new Top 100 list is here on my site in the green side bar on the Home page.
Of the nine new courses coming onto the list I had already played one of them and six of the courses are places I had on my radar already and was hoping to visit soon, so I was excited about that.
The courses that fell of the list are:
Quaker Ridge G.C.
Long Cove Club
Stone Canyon Club
Kiawah Island Club (Cassique)
Black Diamond Ranch (Quarry)
Grandfather Golf & C.C.
Santuary Golf Club
I was very disappointed (and surprised) to see some of these go, specifically Quaker Ridge, Grandfather Golf & C.C. and Long Cove Club. I’ll be keeping the posts for the seven courses I had played that fell off the list on my site under the “Other Courses” page. I’ve got to do some website housekeeping before they are transferred, but it will be soon.
My next adventure will be in late April to Southern California for LA Country Club, Riviera and the Quarry at LaQuinta. If all goes well this year I will visit another 20 courses on the list and make a few return visits to some special spots.
As always, thank you all for you help, support and encouragement as I work towards this goal. I wish you all a great golf season and if you find yourself in Richmond please be sure to let me know so we can have a game.
Hope to see you all soon!
