I recently received this book as a gift from a friend who lives in the UK and is far better traveled than me when it comes to golf outside America. I suppose now that my Top 100 in the U.S. quest is winding down to the end that I should consider this book as a hint for my next adventure. I may have traveled extensively within America, but when it comes to the great golf courses outside of these United States I am a complete neophyte. After spending some time with with this volume from Darius Oliver I hope to change that in 2014.
Planet Golf is an excellent introduction to what are widely considered the best golf courses outside of the U.S. The author covers everything from the famous courses of Great Britain and Ireland to mainland Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, South America and Canada. This book is literally what the title claims it to be . . . THE definitive reference guide for golf outside of America. With 135 different courses covered, each one has roughly a page of copy written about it and is accompanied by some of the most beautiful photography I’ve ever seen. This is a must have for anyone who is interested in the great golf courses of the world. There is also a U.S. companion to this book which is also called Planet Golf.
