How do I get to Pinehurst?
Pinehurst is located in the heart of North Carolina’s sand hills region and getting there can require some logistics. Don’t worry though, in the great scheme of golf destinations it’s a cinch compared to some others.
Since I live only about 3 1/2 hours away from Pinehurst I always drive when I go. From points north, its an easy drive once you get below Richmond, Virginia and are able to get off of I-95. Regardless of where you are coming from you will at times be driving through rural parts of North Carolina as Pinehurst is located over an hour away from the nearest major city. Bring a GPS just in case.
The closest major airport and only sensible option for flying commerical to Pinehurst is the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). There are numerous direct flights into RDU and upon arrival there are all the typical options for rental cars. The last leg of the trip is a 90 minute drive into Pinehurst. There are car services that will drive you there, but unless you are staying at Pinehurst Resort and exclusively playing their courses you will need a rental car.
For those flying in on private planes the closest option is Moore County Airport (SOP) which leaves only a 10 minute drive into the heart of Pinehurst Village. The airport has a 2,000 foot and a 5,500 foot lighted runway.
