What to Expect: Carmel Valley is located nearly 10 miles inland from the storied group of courses at Pebble Beach, one of earth’s hotbeds for golf. The rather short design has water coming into play on the flatter front nine and dramatic elevation changes on the inward nine. As you would expect from Pete Dye, the course enjoys some creative features but isn’t as gimmicky as some of his designs are known for. The course isn’t in the same league as the Pebble Beach Resort courses, but the nice turf conditions and impressive resort features offer an enjoyable alternative for the Monterey area.
