Hi, my name is Sam Williams and I didn’t pick the game of golf up until college but, I have been desperately hooked ever since. My obsession started when I used to see my college roommate take a cab to the local golf course by himself just to get a round in every week. At first I wondered what sort of weirdo I was living with that would take a cab to golf by himself? Later on I thought I might as well try it since he seems to like it so much. After one round, even with a score of 150, maybe more, I was hooked.
I grew up and lived most of my life in Wisconsin so there was never a shortage of golf courses to choose from. Within a short 45 minute drive from my house, I had the option of playing the Kohler courses (Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run), The Bull (one of the hidden gems in the U.S.), or I could head to Lake Geneva with all of its resort courses. Golfers living in Wisconsin truly are some lucky folks.
My favorite part of golf is the architecture and the fact that each golf course is different from the next. That interest made living in a golf rich state like Wisconsin a perfect fit for me. I’ve recently moved to the East Coast, Connecticut specifically, and the change has provided me with the opportunity to play a ton of new courses which I’m enjoying greatly. There’s nothing like stepping up to the first tee of a new course and having no clue what to expect over the next 18 holes.
My other hobbies include the NFL (specifically the Green Bay Packers), fishing, tennis, and traveling. I know it comes as a real shock that a guy from Wisconsin would like the Packers and fishing . . . what can I say, there must be something in the water up there! I also enjoy going on both golf and non-golf vacations to new destinations. I’ve traveled to a lot of different areas of the country on golf trips with my buddies, and have made it a goal to do at least one golf trip every year. A lot of my best friends I have met through golf which is one of the things I love about this great sport!

Growing up in southeast Wisconsin, I took for granted being able to play world class golf within an hour’s drive. Some of you are probably saying to yourself, “Wisconsin? Did he just grossly misspell Florida?” It’s true, living in Milwaukee put me an hour’s drive from Whistling Straits (Straits and Irish Courses), Blackwolf Run (River and Meadow Valley), The Bull (a hidden gem of a Nicklaus course), Erin Hills, and the Lake Geneva area courses. Keep in mind that these are just the courses in Wisconsin - there a number More >
